Ronald Speir's Battle of Carentan

On June 12 and 13, 1944, German troops attempted to recapture Carentan with a joint attack by paratroopers and the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Götz von Berlichingen."

The attack was repulsed after heavy fighting, with the Allies managing to hold their positions.

D Company, commanded by Lieutenant Ronald Speirs, was stationed at this farm during this battle, which served as a defensive position against the German advance.
