Originally constructed in 1942/1943 by the British it was taken over by the US forces in late 1943 and manned by a battalion of 'segregated' troops from 638 Ordnance Ammunition Company. It was one of several ammunition storage and supply depots in the Yeovil area supporting around 12,000 American troops billeted in and around Yeovil in the build up to and after D-Day. Designated Depot 0-680 it reportedly held 45,000 tons of ammunition which was unloaded from the nearby railway sidings in Marston Magna.
Seven of the Nissen Huts are visible on the edge of a field.
