Crash Site Dornier Do 217K- 4410

Dornier Do 217K- 4410 of KG 2 left Kerlin Bastard airfield, Lorient at 00.40hrs on 15 May 1944 on it's first mission to attack Bristol Docks. Soon after crossing the coast they were intercepted by a night fighter at 16,000 feet which they managed to evade but were picked up 10 minutes later by a searchlight but again evaded with a diving turn during which the pilot lost control of the aircraft. Three of the crew baled out and the aircraft crashed at high speed, being almost totally consumed by fire.

4 500kg bombs were found at the site.
Hans Domschke is buried at the German Soldatfriedhof Cannock Chase, Staffordshire.
