Fort de Villey-le-Sec East Bastion

The Redent Est (East Bastion) is part of Fort-le-Sec, which was built between 1875 and 1879. Between 1903 and 1914, it was modernised to cope with the increasingly powerful explosives that it might have to face at the time. During the First World War, the fort was manned by a garrison of 1,301 men but remained out of the fighting.
In 1944, it was bombed by the Americans.
