Stelling van Amsterdam - Lock Spaarndam

A reversing lock dating from 1843, not a listed building. It was once part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam's inundation system, which flooded polders to ward off enemies.

During inundation, the lock was dammed with sluice gates (to 50 cm below NAP), the dam sluice at the pumping station was opened, and other locks were closed. The pumping station allowed water to flow to the Oud Spaarndammerpolder and the Heksloot area.
