Memorial Expelled Ethnic Germans Bulkes

This monument commemorates the expelled ethnic German community from the Serbian village of Bulkes (now Magliç). Bulkes had been inhabited since the 18th century by ethnic Germans who mainly came from Baden-Württemberg. Towards the end of the Second World War, many of them were driven out or fled from the advancing Russian army and vengeful partisans. Many of the refugees from Bulkes settled in Kirchhheim unter Teck, which took in a total of around 7,000 displaced persons and refugees between 1945 and the end of 1947.

The monument bears the following inscription:

'Bulkes 2618 Einwohner. Unvergessen sind 968 Männer, Frauen und Kinder. Verschleppt, verhungert, getötet in Jugoslawien und Russland.

(Bulkes 2618 inhabitants. 968 men, women and children are not forgotten. Deported, starved, murdered in Yugoslavia and Russia)
