During the May days of 1940, the De Hoogstraat estate housed the command post of the CLKA (commander of the army corps artillery) staff of the 2nd Army Corps. The command post was located in what was then the forester's house because the villa on the estate was clearly visible from the air.
On May 11, 1940, the command post was moved to Lomboklaan in the village of Leersum. The De Hoogstraat estate was still guarded by a detachment of the 1st Battalion, 19th Artillery Regiment.
The commander was Lieutenant Colonel J.P. Enklaar.
During the German occupation, the estate was requisitioned and served as a convalescent home for the German Labor Front.
