The Winston Churchill Centre

As the events of D-Day gradually pass from living memory into history, we are presented with an important challenge: how can we help the next generation understand the courage, sacrifice, and impact of that pivotal day? One way is to engage young people through approaches that resonate with them—such as storytelling, interactive learning, and the thoughtful use of technology—ensuring that the lessons of the past continue to be remembered and understood. Once fully developed, the immersive learning programme will bring to life the stories of the 22,442 British service personnel who died on D-Day and during the Battle of Normandy. An enhanced Roll of Honour search facility will allow students to identify and research a fallen hero from their own community— revealing the real people behind the names.

Through personal research, an engaging on-site Memorial visit, and new interactive and educational technology, we hope students will form a meaningful, lasting connection to the individuals commemorated on the Memorial.
