Human Rights Center Cottbus is located on a historic site that served as a prison continuously from 1860 to 2002. Especially during the periods 1933–1945 and 1951–1989, countless people were detained here for political reasons, making the site an important place of remembrance. Today, the main building houses a series of permanent and temporary exhibitions that give visitors an insight into the history of the prison. Visitors can also explore the other former detention buildings and factory grounds on their own.
