This information board provides information about the stays of the Belgian Royal Family during the First World War.
As Commander-in-Chief, King Albert I wanted to retain command of the Belgian army and therefore moved with his family and court to De Panne on the Belgian coast in October 1914. They took up residence in the so-called "royal villas," four large villas belonging to wealthy families: Bortier, de Terschueren, Maskens, and Saint-Joseph. The royal family stayed in the Maskens villa.
