War Monument Wintzenbach

This war memorial for both world wars, Indochina and Algeria, is relatively recent and was only inaugurated in 1994.

It symbolizes the tornness of Alsace and Lorraine during both world wars. A mother in traditional costume cares for her two wounded sons, one in a German uniform, the other in a French one.
On the left and right are the registers of the villagers who died during various conflicts.

The bronze information board at the foot bears an emotional inscription: “Poor victims from the same earth, they were told they were enemies.”

The entire structure is carved from pink sandstone from the Vosges Mountains and is the work of the sculptor François Saur.
