Notre-Dame-des-Aviateurs Chapel Saint-Palais-sur-Mer

This chapel, located in the Le Platin district, was built in 1904 and enlarged in 1908. After aviation pioneer Louis Blériot first crossed the English Channel by plane in 1909, Our Lady became the patron saint of aviators.

During the First World War, the chapel became a place of pilgrimage to ask the Virgin Mary for protection for pilots. During the Second World War, the building was hit by a bombardment, after which it was restored in 1947.

Today, the chapel is used as a place of worship to supplement the parish church. On the exterior wall hangs a plaque that was placed in 1995 in memory of the French fighter pilot, sergeant-pilot Félix-Marie de Kerimel de Kerveno, recipient of the Croix de Guerre, who fell in service to his country on April 14, 1945, at the age of 25.
