Maginot Line - Ouvrage Anzeling

The Maginot ouvrage Anzeling is part of the Secteur Fortifié de Boulay and is one of the larger works. The crew consisted of 760 non-commissioned officers and soldiers and 27 officers from the 162nd RIF and 163rd RAP. The artillery armament consisted of four 135mm howitzers, four 75mm guns and two 81mm mortars. The large distance between the fighting blocks and the entrances of 2,000m is special.

On June 17, 1940, Anzeling came to Bousse's aid, but unfortunately caused damage to this fort. In the night of June 17 to 18, 1940, infiltrations took place by German troops between Anzeling and Bousse. Between 19 and 20 June the fort was fired upon by 105mm and 155mm guns. Ouvrage Anzeling continued to fire on enemy positions until the armistice on June 25, 1940. On July 3, the ouvrage was surrendered to the Germans. During the occupation of France, the ouvrage was used as a bomb-proof factory.
