Commonwealth War Graves Protestant Churchyard Kimswerd

The Cemetery of the Protestant Church in Kimswerd contains six Commonwealth War Graves.
These are the graves of the on 18-08-1942 killed:

Sergeant (Air Gnr.) John Skipsey, RAF, 1014853, age unknown
Sergeant (Pilot) Eugene Sydney Thomas, RAF, 1312704, age 21

On 17 August 1942 at 21.45 departed from RAF Stradishall, the Wellington X3654 of No. 101 Squadron RAF with the mission: a bombing raid over the city of Osnabrück in Germany. The aircraft was part of a formation of 139 bombers with the same mission. X3654 was shot down over The Netherlands by the German night-fighter Oblt. Ludwig Becker, 6./NJG2 and crashed at 02.02 near Kimswerd. All crew members died in the crash. They are all buried in this cemetery.
In total, during this mission, five aircraft were lost, 77 houses and four military buildings were destroyed and a larger number were damaged. 7 residents of Osnabrück lost their lives in this bombing raid.

In Kimswerd is also a memorial which commemorates the crew.
