Bunker BN2 of the Border Line at Lanaken, sector Briegden-Neerharen. Located along the Connection Canal at Lanaken, one hundred meters southwest of the lock. The bunkers of the Lanaken border position date from the 1930s.
The bunker has completely disappeared over the years under a thick layer of ivy, completely hiding it from view. Only at the rear is the bunker still recognizable.
This bunker was equipped with Maxi machine guns and four hand grenade launching holes. Behind the construction is a huge accumulation of earth from the digging of the canal, which posed a problem for the supply and evacuation of the bunker.
As a solution to this problem, a 83m long concrete tunnel (height 2 m) was dug up to the former barracks in Lanaken. This barracks was heavily bombed during the German invasion. The forgotten tunnel was unfortunately closed in the 1990s.
