Maritime Museum of Crete Chania

Chania is an ancient port city. So this city had an important role in history in terms of shipping.

The Maritime Museum is located in Fort Firka on Chania's Venetian harbour. The museum displays the history of Crete from the first seafaring in ancient times to World War II through models, wrecks, documents and the like.

In 1467, Venice ordered the construction of the Moro shipyards in Chania harbour for the repair of its ships. Today, one of the dockyard buildings on the other side of the harbour houses a branch of the museum (photo 8) with an exhibition on ancient and traditional shipbuilding in Crete.

For current visiting hours, please visit the website of the museum.
