From 4 September 1939 till 1945, between 6,000 and 14,000 Polish prisoners of KZ Stutthof, subcamps and regional prisons were buried on this cemetery. The cemetery also contains a mass grave with the remains of 38 Polish postmen who were defending the "Gdansk 1" post office on September 1 1939. They were executed by the Wehrmacht in October 1939.
