Maginot Line - Fort Bambesch

Fort Bambesch is a small fort (Petit Ouvrage) that was built in 1932 as part of the Secteur Fortifiée de Faulquemont [/ i]. The garrison consisted of 112 soldiers and four officers of the 156th RIF, 2nd RG and 18th RT. On 20 June 1940, the fort was attacked by the 88mm Flak guns of the German 167.Infantrie-Division. After two hours of intense barrage the garrison surrendered.
