Memorial Abduction Heinrich Kreipe

This monument was erected in May 2018 to commemorate the kidnapping of Heinrich Kreipe. Heinrich Kreipe was abducted here on April 26, 1944, by the Cretan resistance and Greek SOE agents. Kreipe became a prisoner of war. He was released after World War II. He met his captors on a Greek television show in 1972. He died in 1976.

This barbed wire monument was designed by sculptor Manolis Tzobanakis. The two marble columns standing in front of the monument are engraved, in Greek and English, with the names of the Greeks and Allies who participated in the kidnapping.
