Commonwealth War Graves Newark-on-Trent Cemetery

The Newark Cemetery contains 43 graves of civilian victims. 40 were killed at the Ransome and Marles Bearing Factory raid. This raid on 7 March 1941, was performed by two German Heinkels. One was killed in another part of town (possibly due to strafing or falling friendly" AA fire). The other two were killed 30/1/1941 by a raid on the Castle Railway Station area of town.

Some graves are next to each, behind the Polish military plot. They are marked by the same tombstones. The other graves are located in various locations in the cemetery and have private tombstones or in some cases a tombstone of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (photo 5).

Newark-on-Trent Cemetery also contains 49 military Commonwealth war graves from the First World War and 90 from the Second World War.
