Liberation tree Hoek

The following text was read on the plaque, placed on the tree:

1945-1995: 50 years of freedom

In May this tree was inaugurated as liberty.
To remembrance that with the Netherlands and large parts of
Europe also Hoek was liberated from the fascist Nazi regime.
Hoek and immediate surroundings are virtually intact by
the Second World War borders.
The only undisputed "big event" is the shelling and
downfall of the English torpedo hunter Hms "Valentine"
The Westerschelde north of the New Neuzen polder.
A tree for remembrance. Gratitude in remembrance.
But not only remembrance. In remembrance of the past,
and the sacrifices for freedom are, we'll
our present and future.
And we want to, inter alia, by this liberty,
permanent reminder to our responsibility to
a democratic and equitable society.
A society where respect, equality and freedom
guaranteed for everyone, from whatever race, which
color, religion or orientation whatsoever.

A tree for remembrance.
Let us know up to this tree to grow
And prosper in the middle of the Hoekse society!!!
