Belgian War Graves Lixhe

The Municipal Cemetery near the church of Saint Lambert at Lixhe contains a number of War graves of victims of World War I and World War II.

First World War;

COLENS Jean, age 32, born in Lixhe, soldier in the 1 regiment artillery (75 mm rapid fire guns), died after the war on February 20, 1919 in the military hospital in Liège from the effects of inhaled battle gases. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.

DAS Michael, age 34, from Lixhe, soldier in the 14th Line Regiment, died on October 15, 1918 from probably Spanish Flu at Bayonne (France). He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.

PLILERS Henri, died in captivity on July 26, 1916. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.


Second World War

CONJAERTS Nicolas, age 22, salvaged at Lixhe, soldier in air defense (Défence terrestre contre aéronefs, D.T.C.A.), killed at Zomergem on May 25, 1940. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.

D'HONT Marcel, age 22, from Lixhe, soldier of the 2nd regiment Cyclistes Frontières, killed in action on May 15, 1940 at Vissoul. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.

ONCLIN Albert, age 20, born in Lixhe, soldier in the 2nd regiment Cyclistes Frontières, killed on May 18, 1940 in Wolvertem. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.

SCHETTERS Louis, age 25, resistent, shot near the Citadelle of Liège on January 4. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.

MAYERS Lambert (father), age 42, from Lixhe, taken as a prisoner to France by the German army and executed there in revenge for the death of two German soldiers killed in an aerial bombing, on May 22, 1940. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.

PHILIPPET Jean, concerns a cenotaph, political prisoner, died of hardship in Mauthausen concentration camp (Austria) on November 19, 1943. He is also remembered on the monument at Lixhe.
