Stumbling Stones Rothenbaumchaussee 217

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Albertine Vyth (born 1878, murdered in Riga)
Dr. Albert Dreifuss (born 1877, murdered in Auschwitz)
Bernhard Wolf Josephs (born 1871, murdered in Theresienstadt on 28-10-1942)
Caroline Josephs (born 1878, murdered in Theresienstadt on 29-10-1942)
Emma Josephs (born 1876, murdered in Auschwitz)
Siegfried Josephs (born 1885, murdered in Auschwitz)
Elise Josephs (born 1887, murdered in Auschwitz)
Claus Josephs (born 1925, murdered in Auschwitz)
Ida Koopmann (born 1870, murdered in Theresienstadt on 1-3-1943)
Anna Polak (born 1907, murdered in Stutthof)
Mary Sternberg (born 1862, murdered in Theresienstadt on 21-8-1942)
Julius Wohl (born 1876, murdered in Riga)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
