Memorials Bridge Wachtum

The Plaques on the bridge remind the people of Wachtum of the German invasion on May 10, 1940 and the arrival of the Polish and Belgian liberators on April 9, 1945.

On the first Plaque is the text:

With the German invasion on May 10, 1940
this bridge was defended by a
section 36 R. I. whereby
Dutch side was killed
soldier B. A. van der Voort.

On the other Plaque is the text:

During the fighting
in the liberation on April 9, 1945
by Polish and Belgian units
almost all the houses around the
bridge burned or seriously damaged.
