Trenches Monte Piana

Monte Piana is 2,324 meters high and the border during World War I ran across this flat mountain top.The mountain has two summits, a Northern and a southern.

During the war the north side was occupied by the Austrians and the Italians were on the South Summit. The transition piece what was called Forcella dei Castrati was no man's land and was hard fought on from 1915 to 1917.

Today it is an open air museum and you can take jeeps to the top at the bottom of the mountain at the Lake Misurina.
