Maginot Line - Fortress Velosnes

This Maginot-fortress was part of the Secteur fortifié de Montmédy and belongs together with fortress Chesnois to the biggest fortifications in this sector.

Velosnes consists of 5 blocks. Fortress Velosnes stood under command of the 'Regiment 144th RIF' and was operated during wartime by 246 soldiers and 6 officers. During the night of 11 to 12 June 1940, the garrison sabotaged Velosnes to prevail further usage by the enemy. The German occupier dismantled Velosnes later that same year
