Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

This tomb contains the remains of an unknown Italian soldier who fell in the First World War.

The Unknown Soldier Grave is a memorial from the 19th century in various countries was set up and where the remains were buried by one or more fallen soldiers who could not be identified. These soldiers symbolize the many identified and unidentified soldiers who died in war.

A memorial plaque commemorates the 650,000 Italian soldiers who were captured and interned after 8th September 1943, and the 60,000 who did not return.

The inscription reads:

Alla presenza di Carlo Azeglio ciampi preseidente della repubblica Italiana

Questa sala e stata dedicata alla resistenza dei militari internati

A ricordo dei 650.000 militari Italiani catturati dopo l'8 Settembre 1943 e detenuti nei lager fino alla fine della guerra nonostante le minacce e le lusinghe non si piegarono rimanendo fedeli al giuramento e alla patria 60.000 di loro non tornarono
