International Prisoners Monument

One of the first things you see when you enter the gate is the International Monument at the former parade ground. The International Committee of Dachau, the International Committee of Prisoners, wrote in 1965 a competition for the construction of a memorial. The prize was won by the Yugoslav artist Nandor Glid with his design of the monument. The monument was unveiled in 1968.

An inscription in German, English, French and Russian stands for the design with the following:

"May it be an example of those who where here from 1933 to 1945 as a result of their struggle against the Nazis and lost their lives, to unite the living in defense of peace and freedom and respect for human dignity."
