Crash Location Wellington HE 346

The monument on the Waddenzeedijk between Ternaard and Holwerd was founded in memory of five Allied airmen of the Royal Air Force who died here on June 26, 1943. Their Wellington bomber HE 346 of the 166th squadron was shot down by a night fighter of the occupier and crashed into the Wadden Sea, just north of Holwerd.

The names of the five fallen soldiers are:

J. Ball, C.A. Mattress, A. Mortimer, N. R. Parry and J.P. Priestley.
