Obbe Leininga is 80 years old when he is shot and killed by the police on 3 May 1943. In the vicinity of the Kleinemeersterbrug some people gather in the evenings. Because gathering is prohibited at that time, an accelerated German soldier shoots at the group from fifty meters. He hits Obbe in the stomach.
Bystanders are still taking him to the University Hospital in Groningen, but to no avail. In the hospital, Obbe dies from his injuries. Obbe is buried in his hometown Sappemeer.
