International POW Memorial

This memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum commemorates the prisoners-of-war of 13 countries who were incarcerated at Stalag XIB, Stalag XID and Stalag 357 during World War II.
The memorial symbolized the gates which were opened by The 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars on the 16th April 1945, thus giving freedom to the 17,000 prisoners-of-war held in captivity.
