U.S.S. Peary Memorial

This memorial in Bicentennial Park, commemorates the USS Peary (DD-226), which was sunk on 19 February 1942 by Japanese dive bombers at Dawin harbour.

The Peary suffered 80 men killed and 13 wounded.

The memorial includes one of the 4 inch (101.6mm) deck guns recovered from the ship and a plaque.
