Kadena Air Base

This air base was originally built by the Imperial Japanes Army shortly before the start of the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 unde the name of 'Yara Hikojo'. The small airfield was heavily damaged when it was captured by the U.S. Army. It was restored and expanded by the U.S. engineers.
