Roi-Namur Airfield

Roi-Namur airfield was built by the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1943 and captured by U.S. Marines in 1944. It was renamed in honor of the late MoH recipient Lt. Col Aquilla James Dyess, who was killed on the island on 2 February 1945.
