Fort Pickens

This fort was already built around 1800.
In the American Civil War, Fort Pickens remained in Union hands and it effectively blocked Confederate use of Pensacola Harbor. It was attacked several times by the Confederates.
In World War I, some batteries were enforced and barracks were built.
During the Second World War, it was a training center for the Army Coast Artillery Corps and was used for the coastal defence of Pensacola. The fort remained operational until 1947.
