Fort Monroe

This fort was built from 1819 to 1934. In de Second World War, it was the command center of alle the coastal defence points in the surrounding area, varying from 16" coastal artillery guns to minefields and submarine barriers.

This fort is no longer active. It is now under the National Park Service and the State of Virginia. Also, the Casemate was the imprisonment site of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
