Hughbert Bailey from no. 3 Squadron was flying his Hawker Tempest EJ653 when he, on February 22nd, 1945, near Rheine, Westernphalia, was shot down by Waldemar Söffing. Although injured he managed to rescue himself by parachute. He was treated in Emsdetten Hospital and liberated by the Royal Army in April 1945. Hughbert Bailey at least shot down twelve V1 rockets and was also credited for two half claims of a V1.
