Trooper Percy Lambert was a crew member of an armoured car, which was carrying out a patrol in the area of Maren and came to the aid of another group that had gotten into trouble in that village (see A.S. Aris). He was seriously injured when the car was destroyed in the centre of Maren by a 'Panzerfaust' fired by German infiltrators, hidden in the houses. He was taken away by the Germans but must have died shortly after his capture. The Germans almost certainly took him to the Groot Ziekengasthuis in 's-Hertogenbosch, because according to information from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission he was given a field grave on a map coordinate which stands for the courtyard of the said hospital. From this grave he was transferred to Uden, after a burial unit of the Canadian army had already started an investigation; there was a note in the city archives, which read: "Percy - Canadian - unknown. Temporarily buried in the courtyard of the Groot Ziekengasthuis. Picked up by Canadian authorities." Percy was the first name of the fallen.
Reburied on 17-7-1946 at the British War Cemetery Uden.
