Biography

Born on 12 June 1919 in Addington, Kent, Goodale joined the RAF at the outbreak of war.

After training as an observer and wireless operator/air gunner, he flew 28 missions with 51 Squadron’s Whitleys starting in September 1940, earning a DFC and a commission. After instructing, he was called to join 617 Squadron as Shannon’s wireless operator.

Promoted to Signals Leader in September 1943, Goodale flew operations for nine months before transferring to a training center.
After retiring as a Squadron Leader in 1961, he pursued a business career, including a stint with Short Brothers in Northern Ireland.

Goodale married Vera Beales in 1949, raising two children. He passed away on 16 December 1977 in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
