Unteroffizier and Radar Operator of Staffel 7, Nachtjagdgeschwader 5, was killed during a night intruder mission when his Junkers Ju88G-6 (wn: 620397; C9+RR) crashed onto a car it was attacking near Welton. The crash also claimed the lives of Air Gunner Unteroffizier Alfred Altenkirch, Pilot Feldwebel Heinrich Conze, Wireless Operator Obergefreiter Werner Nollau, and the car's driver, Observer Corps official Jack Perotti Kelway.
