Biography

Frank Silverberg was a Trooper (Tpr.) in the Canadian Army with service number B-61485. He was born on September 5, 1922. Before enlisting, Silverberg lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at 77 Huron Street. He was Jewish. His pre-service occupation was recorded as a Waiter, although the record also noted he was a machinist or printer.

Silverberg enlisted in the Canadian Active Service Force on October 14, 1941, in Toronto. His records show he was a dedicated family member; he was the sole supporter of his mother, Ida Silverberg, and his father, Abraham Silverberg. His mother was listed as his next of kin, and he contributed $40.00 per month to her support, noting that his father was an invalid.

During his service in the Second World War, he was deployed overseas, accumulating 1,104 days of qualifying overseas service. Trooper Frank Silverberg was tragically reported Missing in Action on June 11, 1944. He was later officially reported to have died, believed Killed in Action, on the same date while serving in France. Following his death, his mother, Mrs. Ida Silverberg, received his War Service Gratuity and was designated to receive his campaign medals
