Biography

A Baptist by faith, James Taylor was married to Audrey Taylor and lived in his hometown at the time of enlistment. On September 2, 1939, at the age of nineteen, he joined the Canadian Active Service Force, enlisting in River Hebert and becoming a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. His regimental number was F-49829, and he served with the rank of Lance Corporal.

Taylor’s military service took him overseas during the Second World War, where he participated in the Allied campaign in France. He was reported missing in action and later confirmed to have died of wounds sustained in combat on June 12, 1944. Initially buried in a temporary grave in Mondeville, France, his remains were later reinterred with full military honors on November 10, 1944, at the Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery.

According to a later investigation, Taylor was murdered by German forces.
