Awarded for his leadership of the I./Pz.Rgt. GD during the armoured battles around Borissowka during the Third Battle of Kharkov. In the time period 13-15.03.1943 the Großdeutschland Division destroyed a total of 90 enemy tanks. In particular, on 14.03.1943, Pössl’s battalion achieved a major success while coming to the aid of the divisional Aufklärungsabteilung, which was being attacked by strong Soviet tank forces. Pössl’s battalion destroyed a total of 39 enemy tanks during this engagement and prevented the Soviets from potentially inflicting heavy damage on the Aufklärungsabteilung.
