Awarded the Knight's Cross for his Bataillon’s contribution towards crushing the Soviet bridgehead over the Beresina river north of Gussino. His men smashed two Soviet battalions, took the fortified heights on the east bank and stormed the Gussino train station with Weimer at their head. These moves collapsed the Soviet hold on the bridgehead.
