In three days of fierce battle, Weinelt and his Kompanie of Panzer-Pioniere succeeded in repelling a total of 8 Soviet attacks conducted by two battalions and numerous tanks. Every attack saw hostile tanks overrunning the German positions. After the fighting was over a total of 24 Soviet tanks lay destroyed on the battlefield, of which Weinelt himself destroyed 2 in close combat. Weinelt would receive the Knight's Cross for this major defensive success.
