On the 16.10.1944 Major Kerutt distinguished himself as a Kampfgruppe commander in the fighting near Venraij. Here he succeeded in counterattacking broken-in elements of the British XXX. Corps, although he was wounded severely near the end of the battle. Kerutt would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross for this and other achievements during the fighting in Holland.
