The following wartime excerpt describes why Seitz received the Knight’s Cross…

"Major Seitz, commander of the II./Gebirgs-Jäger-Regiment 99, accomplished a great deal in the time period 05.06.1940-06.06.1940. During this time he crossed the Oise-Aisne Canal, captured a bridgehead near Pommiers and conquered the St. Amand-Ferme. Through these actions (and in spite of heavy losses to his Bataillon as well as becoming personally wounded himself) he and his men seized the cornerstone of the enemy's defense in a display of unstoppable attacking spirit. As a result the French positions were definitively broken through, an act of decisive importance beyond the level of both his Bataillon and Regiment."
