On the 30.09.1944 Gefreiter Czorny observed how the Soviets were trying to maneuver an anti-tank gun in front of his own position (located in the vicinity of Doblen). He decided to deal with his threat on his own initiative. He exited his position, cleared the area around the anti-tank gun of enemy forces with his MG 42 and then occupied the same area. Shortly afterwards the surviving Soviets were driven back towards their old position by a commissar. In response Czorny fired off a few bursts of MG fire and then stormed into the middle of the attackers, firing from the hip. In this way, along with a few comrades, he stormed into additional Soviet positions and rolled them up. In the process he captured another enemy anti-tank gun.

All told he was able to eliminate a threat to the flank of his Bataillon through his actions on his day. He also created the preconditions for the success of a subsequent German attack. As such Gefreiter Czorny would later be awarded the Knight’s Cross in recognition of this feat.
