On January 22nd, 1944 at15.39 hrs, Hauptmann Franz Hahn took off with his Stabsschwarm from airbase Littorio near Rome and found himself in air battle with Lockheed Lighting and Curtiss Kittyhawk fighters. During the battle he was shot down and tried to exit his aircraft. In doing this he got unconcious and was killed.
