"Distinguished himself through courageous conduct against the enemy on May 10, 1940, while assigned to a cyclist group, intrepidly conducted an attack on a stronger and better-armed enemy unit, which had been entrenched in a farmhouse in the Westpolder near Berkel after a forced landing.
In particular, he immediately followed up the assault ordered by the commanding officer, under enemy fire, over a distance of 300 meters to the farmhouse.
He was also one of the first to reach the farmhouse and helped capture and disarm the enemy unit, capturing a large quantity of weapons and ammunition."
